In the towns near Protaras, Ayia Napa and Paralimni there are many monasteries to visit. Especially the Ayia Napa Monastery which was built like a medieval castle, and the village which sprang up arount it, took its name from the ancient Greek word "Napa" which means "wooded valley". This monastery was built around 1500 A.D.
In Protaras, however, there is the little church of Prophet Elias up on a hill 100 metres high. It has many steps until you reach the top of the hill, but the breath-taking panoramic view of Protaras and the sea is worth the climb. The little church is worth the visit as well. «back
